Winter in the Black Forest
Winter sports have a long tradition in the Bernau Highlands. This is the homeland of the legendary skiing pioneer Ernst Köpfer and his skis “Marke Feldberg”.
Today Bernau is the insider tip among the most popular locations in the Black Forest for winter sports. Bernau im Schwarzwald established itself long ago as venue for various ski sport events, in both alpine and Nordic disciplines.
The most beautiful mountain valley in the Southern Black Forest Nature Park is the centre of european sled dog sport. It has been the venue four times for the European Championships and in 2003 for the World Championships.
Winter experiences for all with great opportunities - that is the ideal that the Bernau Highlands have concentrated on.
5 lifts, 2 of which with floodlights. FIS slope. To some extent artificial snow.
Winter experience centre “Rot-Kreuz-Loipe” DSV (German Ski Association) Nordic activity cross-country ski centre with 40km cross-country ski tracks. Snowtubing park, toboggan run, winter walking tracks.
50km cross-country ski tracks in Bernau Highlands, classic and free technique, floodlight track.
In 2006 all Bernau cross-country ski tracks were accredited (DSV).
40km of prepared walking tracks in the valley (900m) and in the heights (1.294m). 3.5km long toboggan run with 374m altitude difference. Snow tractor adventure trip to the Krunkelbach Hütte at 1294m.
Snowshoe expeditions to the coldest pole in Baden-Württemberg and to the subalpine 1,415m high Herzogenhorn.
The date for the 2012 international dog sled races has not yet been decided.
“Spitzenberg” winter campsite, 100 pitches for long-stay campers and 15 pitches for tourists (short stays).
