Zauberwald-Pfad (magic trail) in the Bernau Highlands
The Zauberwald-Pfad (magic trail) is located in the Taubenmoos nature reserve area in the district of Oberlehen, within the Bernau region. It has a length of 2.5 kilometres. This varied and impressive nature adventure trail, which was developed between 2007 and 2009, runs along the Rönisch stream on paths and leveled forest tracks, although the stream must be crossed using narrow wooden bridges in some places. From the trail you have views of the bordering moor areas, which developed from marshes and pools as a result of the sediment and detrital of the glacier from the last Ice Age. Nowadays many rare animal and plant species live here.
The trail runs through almost magical forests with luscious moss coverings, small springs and brooks, so you can well imagine that mischievous fairies and goblins live here. The “Schweinewiibli” a Bernau legendary figure, who is interested in the contents of bags and baskets from the visitors, is said to live here ...
The path leads you through sometimes light and sometimes dark spruce forest, where many different forest animals can be discovered off the track – if you just look closely and take your time. The path leads through the area where regularly the lowest temperature in Baden Württemberg is measured. As a result of the very low average temperature Taubenmoos is also referred to as cold pole. Further along the leveled forest tracks you will arrive at fairytale cabins. Once out of the forest, past flower-filled meadows, where the traditional cows roam and search for food, to a crossing, from which there is a beautiful countryside view of the Bernau Highlands and the Herzogenhorn, the second-highest summit in Baden-Württemberg.
