Always on the right track

The new standardised directions system, which the Black Forest society together with the Southern Black Forest nature park, Northern/Mid Black Forest nature park and the local communities have introduced in almost the complete Black Forest region ensure that you will never take a wrong turn.

With the destination signposting system at least one signpost informs you for each direction, how far in which direction it is to which possible destinations. In addition, you receive information about where exactly you are now. In order to know which signpost you should follow the route network in the Black Forest is split into three route categories, which are marked with different symbols.

Long distance walking routes like the “Westweg“ (west route) are continously marked with their own symbol - Westweg: red diamond.

Regional walking routes complement the long distance walking routes and are marked with a blue diamond.

Local walking routes connect the local walking destinations and starting points into the walking route network. These are marked with a yellow diamond.
