“Hans-Thoma Day” with Alemannic local festival
The “Hans-Thoma Day” is a special experience for guests, locals and art-lovers.
Annually, since 1949, this event takes place on the second week in August in honour of the great painter Hans Thoma. In conjunction with this commemoration day, Bernau celebrates a large Alemannic local festival. More than 100 locals wearing traditional costumes impress with music, singing and dancing. The highlight is the awarding of the “Hans-Thoma Prize”.

Holzschnefler day and nature park market
Experience tradition firsthand at the annual “Holzschnefler” days in August at the Resenhof Heimatmuseum, always on the third weekend in August. On these days the 1789-built Resenhof becomes a true working museum. A tour through the Resenhof is like a journey back to a long-forgotten time and impressively conveys to the visitors how life and work in the Bernau mountain valley was back then.
