The Feldberg 1,493m
The Feldberg is at 1,493m the highest and most-visited Black Forest summit, the highest elevation in the county of Baden-Württemberg and the German low mountain range. The Feldberg is the oldest (since 1937) among the 600 nature reserves and with 42km² is also the largest.
The “Haus der Natur” (House of Nature) on the Feldberg is home to the office for the Southern Black Forest Nature Park and also the nature protection centre. With 370,000 hectares of land it is currently the second largest nature park in Germany.
In an interactive and multimedia designed exhibition in the “Haus der Natur” visitors can inform themselves about the history and functions of the Southern Black Forest Nature Park. The development of the countryside, the natural habitat of typical plants and animals are also presented, as well as the historical and current use of the countryside by man. With the cable car up the mountain - a great treat with the Feldbergbahn.
