The Southern Black Forest Nature Park aims to provide accessible projects and wants to allow guests with physical or mental disabilities, as well as people who are suffering from temporary injuries to enjoy the beauty and uniqueness of the region as easily as possible. Accessibility in tourism facilitates safe and easy access for all people and as a result improves the attractiveness and quality of the touristic offering.
For this reason, the Bernau im Schwarzwald community has created two barrier-free excursion destinations:

Hans-Thoma Art MuseumHans-Thoma Art Museum
In this museum you will get an insight into the extensive and varied works from one of the most popular painters in Germany at the end of the 19th century. Hans Thoma, born and raised in Bernau im Schwarzwald shaped the german art scene for many decades.

After a wander through the lovingly cared-for resort park, take a look at the Bernau parish church: you’ll discover two additional paintings from Hans Thoma here.
Restore your energy afterwards in the Restaurant Rössle, ca. 50m away (suitable for wheelchairs.) Here you can enjoy seasonal and regional specialities, and also a hearty Black Forest cold meat plate.

Resenhof Heimatmuseum Resenhof Heimatmuseum
A tour through the 1789-built Resenhof is like a journey back to a long-forgotten time. With the theme “Life how it was back then” the typical Black Forest barn shows us how the people before the beginning of the last century in the Bernau high valley lived and worked. The Resenhof documents the centuries-old tradition of the Bernau “Holzschnefler” (wood craftsman) with workshops for the woodwork professions (from Autumn 2011 accessible for all).

Forum: "erlebnis:holz"Forum: "erlebnis:holz"
The neighbouring Forum “erlebnis:holz“ (“experience:wood“) (suitable for wheelchairs) offers an interesting contrast. In temporary exhibitions modern day craftwork pieces are displayed, which could be referred to as the descendants of the “Holzschnefler” (wood craftsman)

After a visit to the Heimatmuseum Resenhof and Forum “erlebnis:holz“ the Hotel Schwanen, ca. 200m away, offers a good place to rest (from Autumn 2011 suitable for wheelchairs.)
